I don’t need to tell you that stretching is important…we all know it’s great for your body. I get that we don’t always make time to stretch our bodies and it’s important to keep things balanced…BUT if you can’t find time…at least make time for your hamstrings.
Regardless of my stretching frequency, I always find my back and hams are tight like a tiger (I’m sorry if you don’t get this ridiculous reference heh).
A quick lesson in anatomy. Your hamstrings (Bicep Fermoris, Semitendinosus, Semimembranosus) originate from your ischial tuberosities (pelvis) and travel down the entire back length of your thighs and have an insertion at the top of the fibula (around your knee).
If your hamstrings are tight they’ll create a downwards pull on the pelvis which can lead to disfunction in the hips and and lumbar spine. If you notice a tipped pelvis, work on loosening up this area and see if you notice a difference! 🙂 This muscle pulling can also lead to disfunction in the knee and femur.
Some benefits to stretching;
- Injury prevention
- Lower back pain relief
- Reduced discomfort
- Improved range of motion
- Improved flexibility
A happy healthy body! 🙂
Below I have added a few of my favourite stretches to keep you limber. It only takes five minutes so no excuses!
