Understanding the Chakras & Reiki

How can understanding the chakras and reiki help you?

Everything in the universe is made of energy, vibrating at different frequencies or levels making energy our life force. Dis-ease can show up in our physical body, our state of mind and spirit. By understanding our energy and how it interacts with our environment, we can better understand the cycles of the body and understand dis-ease in our energetic body to prevent us from experiencing it in the physical body. Receiving reiki, guides energy flow to balance energy in the body to reduce dis-ease and to promote the recipient’s self healing abilities (NCCIH). By balancing this we encourage a healthy flow of energy through the body reducing stress, anxiety and pain or discomfort. In some cases, Reiki can prevent these discomforts.

The practice of reiki involves transmitting or balancing energy through specific hand placement on or around the body.

The magic of reiki is that it is not limited by distance. Distance is a physical limitation. Energetic healing works with the energy field around the body. We accept frequencies such as electricity, wifi, cell phones etc. even though we cannot see them. Similarly, distant reiki needs to be tuned in and flows through the naturally occurring energy currents. The Reiki practitioner acts as a conduit for healing energy and is guided through energy blocks to create a harmonious body for the one receiving.

CHAKRAS

Many believe the body has tens of thousands of invisible, energetic lines circling around it, these are called ‘nadis’ or ‘meridians.’ Chakras occur where the highest number of these lines converge. These energy systems also correspond to certain nerve bundles and major organs. Chakra is a Sanskrit term meaning “wheel of light,” a chakra is a wheel of light revolving in and through our energy system, drawing energy and information towards us. These energy centers are also points of connection where our energy can flow from one to another, it can influence the energy of a room or the things around us. This connection flows both ways and allows us to experience and align with the energy around us. Chakras are always moving but the vitality of the energy can be lessened if an area of our life is out of balance. This energy affects our physical body, our state of mind and our actions. Our chakras can be too open, closed and the sweet spot, flowing easy.

In order to understand the flow of life we must experience and understand our chakra energy. This energy is always changing based on our interactions with our environment and experiences. The plus side to this…we can always change our energy to something good. We can always positively influence our environment but radiating goodness through our energy.

Feelings are mental experiences of body states. The chakras are the energy of the relationship between the two. The chakra system is a way of examining what happens between the mind and the body.

Katherine Willis

There are 7 main chakras…

Root (1st), Sacral (2nd), Solar Plexus (3rd), Heart (4th), Throat (5th), Third Eye (6th), Crown (7th).

The Heart Chakra acts as a bridge between the core chakras or the lower three chakras (Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus) and your spiritual chakras. If the Heart is not balanced, the bridge will not be open.

ROOT

The Root Chakra is known as the ‘root of all things,’ located at the base of the spine . It is responsible for your sense of safety and security. Balancing the root chakra creates a solid foundation for opening the chakras above. When you have a balanced first chakra you are full of life, you have the will to grow, you are healthy, grounded, centered and strong. When it is unbalanced, you lack will, vigor or passion. You may feel oversensitive, ungrounded, spacey and materialistic.

SACRAL

The Sacral Chakra is located below your belly button. It is responsible for your sexual and creative energy. The sacral chakra helps inform how we relate to our emotions and the emotions of others. When this chakra is balanced you feel comfort, you can express forgiveness, you can accept change, relationships are harmonious. When it is out of balance you feel jealousy, negativity, you crave control and miscommunicate.

SOLAR PLEXUS

Your Solar Plexus Chakra is located in your stomach area. It is responsible for confidence and self esteem as well as helping you feel in control of your life. Think about the last time you had butterflies in your stomach, that’s the solar plexus at work. When your SP is balanced you accept responsibility for yourself, you are self confident, you have healthy self esteem, productive, focused, empowered, well adjusted. When you are out of balance you are overly sensitive to reactions of others, you have feelings of indifference.

HEART

The Heart Chakra is located in the center of your chest, nearest your heart. This chakra connects to our ability to love and show compassion. Think of someone you love deeply, acknowledge the warm tingling you feel in your chest. The heart chakra acts as a bridge between our core chakras and our expressive and spiritual chakras. If the Heart is out of balance, the bridge will not be open creating a block between say, our gut feeling and the ability to speak up or know and trust our decisions. Do you ever feel tightness in your chest? Don’t ignore this feeling, this is your heart chakra communicating with you through energy. When your heart is out of balance you are continually giving and have a hard time saying no. When your heart is balanced you have a sense of inner peace, are compassionate, loving, warm, affectionate, tolerant.

THROAT

This chakra rules our ability to communicate. Ever get an obnoxious tickle in your throat even when you’re not sick? This is often when we need to say something, or have said to much. What is the first thing that comes to mind? When our throat chakra is balanced we balance listening and talking, we have personal integrity and speak our truth. When this is unbalanced we are over talkative, have a hard time listening, uncommunicative.

THIRD EYE

Located between your eyes, the third eye is responsible for intuition and imagination. When this is balanced we can tap into innate wisdom, inspiration and strong visualization. When this is our of balance we may feel spacey or ungrounded, disorganized, hazy and narrow minded.

CROWN

Located at the top of your head, your crown represents your spiritual connection to yourself, others and the universe. It plays a role in your life’s purpose. When the crown is balanced we feel bliss! We have understanding and awareness of our connection to all living things. When this is unbalanced we have mental instability and manic or psychotic behavior.

To balance our chakras we can use Reiki, exercise or movement, sound therapy, essential oils, crystals and conscious choices.

REIKI

Rei·ki | \ ˈrā-ˌkē  \

Everything is energy. Your thoughts, your body, the water you drank, the hugs you felt…everything is energy, it is just vibrating at different levels of creation. Reiki is a healing therapy that is based on the belief that the body is able to heal itself and the principal that everything is guided by the same invisible life force and it influences our physical, mental and emotional well being. As everything vibrates with this energy, it can be shifted and shared. By tapping into Reiki, we can work to balance our energy and create a harmonious body through emotional realignment. At the heart of transformation, we learn to see others as ourselves through self love and unconditional love for ourselves and others. Reiki supports this connection to our higher self and our souls quest.

Transformation is the process of gaining more awareness and becoming more conscious of our unlimited potential and knowing that we are truly the infinite creators of our life.

-Bettina Marie

Reiki translates into Universal (Higher power, spiritual wisdom, spirit, soul, quantum, spiritual consciousness) and Vital Life Force Energy. Together Reiki means Universal Life Energy or simply, Energy. Reiki represents oneness as we see others as we see ourselves.  The practice of reiki involves transmitting or balancing energy through specific hand placement on or around the body.

Through hands on or hands off sessions or through distant sessions, your practitioner works with Reiki to balance your chakras. Reiki has been studied to help with stress, depression, anxiety, infertility, Crohn’s disease, physical pain and cancer. Through balancing our energy we can regain harmony in the body. Energy becomes stagnant in the body around areas of injury/ physical pain or possibly areas of emotional pain. In time, these blocks can cause illness. Energy work aims to help the flow of energy and removes blocks in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure. Improving the flow of energy around the body, can enable relaxation, reduce pain, speed healing and reduce other symptoms of illness. (T. Newman).

Usui Shiki Ryoho (the Usui System of Natural Healing, is a Japanese Healing Art. This form was founded in Japan and the basis of the practice is referred to as self healing/self treatment. A little over 100 years ago a Japanese man, Mikao Usui, began a personal search that ended with his having contact with the energy Reiki. His practice grew and eventually Reiki was introduced out of Japan via Hawaii in 1937 by Hawayo Takata Sensei. It is passed on from one person to another through a specific initiation, teachings and a defined form of practice.

The Japanese word ‘reiki’ can be translated as ‘universal life energy’ and the Usui System is a way of working with reiki for healing of self and others. The word healing is used in the sense of regaining harmony and wholeness.
